Why did you choose Upsher-Smith for your summer internship and what interested you in the position?
The management at Upsher-Smith is amazing and I got a sense of that from my interviews. I also think many engineers often forget about the quality assurance aspect of manufacturing, so I wanted to gain a better understanding of that process.

Working with an experienced sales team and being able to learn from them about how they build relationships and support customers. Nobody is above talking to you. How great all of the people I worked with are and insight into what life at a smaller company would be like and why so many people love it.

Be open to trying new things. Just because something doesn’t align perfectly with your major doesn’t mean it isn’t an amazing opportunity. Doing something outside your major gives you the chance to learn and grow in ways you never expected.

What was your role within the department team?
Sold migraine medication to healthcare professionals. Also researched current market competition and helped develop marketing material and market access presentations.

Why did you choose Upsher-Smith for your summer internship and what interested you in the position?
I love the ethics behind Upsher-Smith. They truly care about getting medication to doctors and patients as fast and easy as possible, rather than the profit they are going to make. I have always had an interest in the medical field along with sales/marketing, so I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to combine two of my likings into one job description.

What was your favorite or most rewarding part of working at Upsher-Smith?
The people you are surrounded by. Everyone at Upsher-Smith is there to support you and help you in your future. They are reassuring, helpful, and have such high confidence in each one of their interns. Also, the opportunity to help lives of others, and that the staff at Upsher-Smith has such high trust in you to do so. Although I was selling/marketing the products to doctors, in the end it will help a patient live a more comfortable life.

What was the biggest take away for you from this experience?
In the pharmaceutical industry, where regulations and market conditions are always changing, you never quite know what will be thrown at you. So you need to learn to “go with the flow.”

What advice would you share with other students who are interested in the internship program at Upsher-Smith?
Take advantage of the short time you have and connect with as many co-workers as you can. Everyone at Upsher-Smith is there to help you, and are always willing to tell you more about their job on a day-to-day basis. Take the initiative to make those connections and learn from each individual.
