  • Health and Wellness is as important to you as it is to the company. Living a healthy lifestyle can reduce stress, reduce injuries and illnesses, and increase well-being. Upsher-Smith has had a long-standing health and wellness program (Healthwise) that provides employees with education on healthy eating, exercise, and preventative care. This program has helped many live healthy lives in addition to reducing the number of health insurance claims, which can positively impact the cost of premiums.

  • Fitness club reimbursement is available to all employees to support a healthy lifestyle. To help offset the cost of a fitness club membership, Upsher-Smith provides reimbursement to employees when they meet participation requirements.

  • Employee assistance programs can offer assistance with life stresses such as relationship, financial, legal, parenting, elder care, and family issues. Confidential support is available to all of our employees 24 hours a day through our employee assistance program.

  • Daycare support can reduce the stress associated with finding good daycare for the children of working parents. Currently, Upsher-Smith employees receive a 10% discount if their children are enrolled in Kinder Care in Maple Grove, MN, or New Horizon’s childcare centers nationwide.

  • Adoption assistance is available to all employees. Adoptions can be costly, and Upsher-Smith is committed to support a portion of the fees associated with adopting a child.

  • Community involvement has been a part of the Upsher-Smith culture for many years. We believe the responsibility to improve people’s lives originates within the local communities in which we work and live. We support employee volunteer efforts through corporate-sponsored events, individual contributions, corporate sponsorship, and a yearly campaign effort to support the United Way.

  • Convenience services can help employees take the time they need to make the most of their life outside of work. Upsher-Smith has offered discount tickets for certain events and services and plans on expanding this program throughout 2008. Some of these convenience services include meal preparation and delivery programs, movie ticket sales, and other event tickets sales.

  • Education assistance for the personal and professional aspects of your life can give you more options and greater control over life outcomes. Upsher-Smith currently offers a variety of training programs through USL University to help employees in their professional careers. Additional courses are being offered to give employees resources on financial planning, retirement planning, and in the future, parenting and elder care. Resources right at your fingertips help to provide you with the things you need to be successful in life. Upsher-Smith supports employee education through the tuition assistance program for undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

  • Flexible work arrangements come down to trust and evaluation of performance outcomes. The types of flexible work arrangements available are dependent on the positions considered. Some arrangements are not possible for certain positions and are dependent on the size of the department. Flexibility arrangements can be creative and can include part-time work, job sharing, compressed work weeks, working at home, and occasionally adjusting hours as needed. Upsher-Smith has many successful flexibility arrangements with current employees at this time and there are plans to increase available options in the future.
  • Time off allows employees to rejuvenate. Utilizing your paid time off is a great way to balance home life responsibilities and to take some time for yourself. Upsher-Smith supports employees in this area by offering all employees with a competitive PTO policy supporting leaves of absences when necessary, supporting employees to do volunteer activities during work hours, and helping employees who want to donate PTO hours to other employees in need. New employees receive 10 days of PTO, as well as 11 paid holidays per year, including a birthday holiday.
